Given below are a list of opportunities that take place at sites external to WVU and are available, on a competitive basis, to any student (not just WVU students) who meets specified criteria. Some opportunities have restrictions. Read over the information provided below and in the links. If you have questions, contact the person in charge of the that particular opportunity. Pay attention to deadlines and submit your application well ahead of the deadline for full consideration.

Student Opportunity Center (S.O.C.)

A search platform for finding relevant, nationwide, experiential learning opportunities such as paid summer research experiences, internships at national/government labs or agencies, undergraduate symposia/conferences, journals and more. This platform includes many of the opportunities detailed below. For 2018-19, access to this resource is supported by the Honors College and is limited to 500 users. Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Sites

Funds undergraduate students in full-time research with supportive educational training activities during the summer months. Sites are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) at hundreds of institutions across the U.S. and in many different STEM disciplines. Students can search for current REU Sites by discipline or location.

In addition, NSF also funds International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) sites that take place in many different countries.
