In 2020, West Virginia University was one of 12 institutions nationwide to receive funding from the      Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation to establish a Beckman Scholars Program at WVU.

2022

  • Bryan Ho. Bryan's research aims to identify the structure-function relationship of platelet-activating factor receptor (PAFR) to identify antagonists that can suppress the inflammatory response.
  • Zachary Ellis. Zach's research focuses on the identification of potential biomarkers of Huntington's Disease (HD) using a C. elegans model of HD progression.

2021

  • Abigail Jones. Abigail's research is on ergot alkaloids, chemicals that can kill insects, or, when modified, can be used in pharmaceuticals. This research involves identifying specific fungi and manipulating them for these applications
  • Jackie Arnold. Jackie's research is focused in the field of biomedical engineering and specifies in the immobilization of enzymes in hyaluronic acid-based hydrogels.

2020

  • Kelcie Britton. Kelcie's research is focused in genetics and biochemistry. Specifically this involves the study of ergot alkaloids which are produced by fungi and can help treat Alzheimer’s and migraines.
  • Abreanne Andlinger. Abreanne's research is focused on neurodevelopment and exploring the connection between genes and neurological disorders using zebrafish
