Student’s Major: Interactive Design for Media

Basilisk Breakout is a virtual reality game that is current;y in development. The point of this project is to explore how to tell stories through different and new media such as virtual and augmented reality. I chose virtual reality because it allows for the most immersive experience in new media than anything else. This will also be a horror game, which allows for many different mechanics that are not used very often. Most of the research has been about game optimization and mechanics through a variety of courses and tutorials via online resources. This game is being made in Unity for Oculus. Telling a story in virtual reality can be hard, as it is still new. Some challenges I expect to face are mostly during player testing. Communicating what to do in virtual reality is extremely difficult and finding an effective way to communicate with the player seems to be my main challenge at the moment, but that is why doing a project like this is important, it shows new problems and solutions that have yet to be explored thoroughly.
