Submit Research to UReCA: The NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

UReCA: The NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity is a multidisciplinary Web journal sponsored by the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). Our mission is to curate relevant, progressive and academic content that appeals to undergraduate students in the United States and abroad. We are seeking works from undergraduate students who are engaged in relevant and intriguing research.

Categories of submissions include:

  • Fine Art
  • Humanities
  • Creative Writing
  • Social Science
  • STEM

To submit, follow this link. Submissions are reviewed by UReCA’s editorial staff which is composed of students from honors programs around the country. Selection is via a triple-blind process and is competitive.

For research-based works, UReCA is looking for the highest quality undergraduate academic submissions. A text will be judged on the quality of three components: analysis, content, and organization. Analysis should display a clear, independent voice that creates a compelling argument. You should use an appropriate number of scholarly sources as well. A successful paper addresses current and relevant issues in its respective field, while maintaining accessibility for a general audience. The argument should be engaging and cohesive, following a logical progression of thought; effective arguments are augmented by precise and eloquent language. Grammar, readability, proper formatting, and general correctness of the content of an entry will also determine its success. Suggested length is 15 pages or less. Students wishing to submit their thesis should edit their works to the maximum length.

For creative works, UReCA seeks the highest quality fiction, essays, and poetry. Fiction and essays should be engaging and ideally express a larger connection to apt human issues. Poems should avoid cliché, explore common poetic techniques, and resonate with the reader. Students may submit one creative work at a time, with the exception of poetry and flash fiction. Up to three poems may be submitted in one file. If you are submitting flash fiction (under 500 words), you may also submit up to three works in one file.

Do not include any identifying information in the document or in the file. Works may not have been previously published and UReCA acquires first worldwide electronic rights for the life of the work. Following removal from the UReCA Web site, the work will be archived and remain accessible.
