Megan's cover art (pictured above) will be featured on the front of MURR, Vol. 6, Issue 1.

Megan is a junior graphic design student at WVU. In response to what her goal with her design was, Megan stated, “I wanted to reflect the variety of disciplines involved in undergraduate research and merge topics of STEM, art, graphic design, and the brainstorming process to depict the research process. I intended for it to reflect the trial and error with the research process, that it is not linear and can be messy or involve many components, and how the reward of further gained knowledge is always on the horizon.”

Megan’s artwork will be featured as the cover for MURR, Volume 6, Issue 1 this spring, and she will be receiving a prize of $150 through with support of the WVU Honors College. The spring release of MURR initiates a new biannual publication for cycle for the journal.

Junior graphic design major, Megan Rinker, was selected as the winner for the MURR, Vol.6, Issue 1, cover art contest by the MURR Editorial Review Board.

Runners up include Kirsten Roys, a rising senior majoring in civil and environmental engineering, and Muriithi-David Kem, a recent graduate of aerospace engineering. Their artwork is anticipated to be featured in the journal among other cover art submissions.

This spring’s cover art contest ran from February 8 – April 23, 2021, and the editorial review board solicited artwork and written synopses from student artists across campus. Artists were asked to address prompts about how their artwork reflected the mission of undergraduate research at WVU.

Upon further reflecting on the thematic components of her artwork, Megan stated that designing this piece, “Gave me an opportunity to think about how individuals in different disciplines work together to form new ideas. Collaboration is essential to discovering more about ourselves and the world around us, especially for undergraduate students who have so many opportunities to rethink and build on what information we already have available to us."

MURR, Vol. 6, Issue 1 is in the final stages of electronic publication and will be made available first on the Research Repository @ WVU alongside previous editions. It will be followed by a limited print run shortly after its debut online.

Students of any major interested in submitting research articles to MURR, Vol. 6, Issue 2 are encouraged to visit the MURR webpage or email murr.wvu@gmail.com with any questions. The editorial review board is accepting manuscripts on a rolling basis.

The next cover art contest for MURR is scheduled to begin June 2021.
