Researcher Needed: Mindfulness and Second Language Proficiency

Dr. William Morgan's lab is seeking an undergraduate researcher for assistant on a project investigating the impact of mindfulness on second language proficiency. This position is currently volunteer, though there are opportunities for funding in the future.

Overview: The project involves collecting and analyzing proficiency measurements of advanced and lower-division Spanish students. The project looks at whether or not mindfulness meditation allows students to have perform better on the cognitive measurement of second language proficiency, specifically mindfulness meditation. The volunteer will help with scoring the data and then will receive training on data analysis. Should the volunteer have more than one semester/academic year availability, there will be opportunities to present at a national conference and potentially to receive acknowledgement in publication. 

Skills Expected to Gain: Coding Data.

Expected Duration of the Project: The project will last during the Fall 2021 semester minimum; the maximum time available is two years.

Qualifications: The undergraduate researcher must have some proficiency in Spanish. Upper-level students are preferred. Language majors or minor are preferred.

Location and Expected Time Commitment: The volunteer is expected to work approximately 1-2 hours per week. There will be bi-weekly meetings either via Zoom or face-to-face.
