The Toxicology Mentoring and Skills Development Training Program (ToxMSDT) is a special opportunity for undergraduate science students to participate in a year-long toxicology training and mentoring program. Funded by NIH grant R25GM139200, with the Society of Toxicology as a partner, the goal of this program is to attract diverse, high achieving undergraduate students from around the United States to pursue careers in biomedical research, especially in the field of toxicology. Successful applicants will be teamed with a mentor and visit the mentor work site, attend three conferences, engage in online learning modules, and interact with the other students and program leaders. There is travel support for participation in all program activities. This program supplements the regular academic pursuits of the ToxMSDT students. The program starts September 1, 2021, and will conclude June 30, 2022.
Eligibility
Paid Biomedical Research Opportunity for HSTA Scholars and First2 Students
WV-INBRE program will provide funding for HSTA scholars and First2 students attending West Virginia University and Marshall University to participate in biomedical science research.
Undergraduate Virtual Internship Opportunity
The Franciscan Institute for World Health (FIWH) in partnership with AbbVie is co-coordinating this unique, not-for-profit, learning opportunity for undergraduates exclusively for educational, humanitarian, and career learning purposes. In 2021, the program is inviting undergraduates from Augustana College, Ave Maria University, Bluffton University, Calvin College, Carleton College, Cornell College, Duquesne University, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Goshen College, Grinnell College, Illinois Wesleyan University, Louisiana State University, Saint Francis University, University of Dallas, and West Virginia University
The internship, now in its eleventh year, is a 10 week, 30 hour/week, virtual internship experience of collaborative research on Neglected Tropical Disease targets side-by-side with AbbVie Medicinal Chemists and Dr. Jeffrey Rohde. Interns will participate in a critical step in this global effort: helping to design new small molecules as potential novel drug therapies. With access to state-of-the art scientific modeling tools, students will learn to conduct medicinal chemistry research and regularly give updates on their efforts in team meetings. The summer will conclude for each intern with a poster and/or PowerPoint presentation to the full project team and a performance evaluation of their summer work by their project supervisor.
WVU Extension Service's Looking for STEM Ambassadors
WVU Extension is currently hiring undergraduate and graduate STEM majors to serve as WVU Stem Ambassadors. STEM Ambassadors act as science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) instructors during the summer at Jackson's Mill 4-H camp and through virtual STEM clubs and activities. Given training and materials, ambassadors will deliver pre-arranged STEM curricula to youth at Jackson’s Mill 4-H Camp on alternating 2-week intervals and lead virtual STEM clubs and activities during the time frame of May 24, 2021, to August 15, 2021.
